Ian has passed Jacksonville, but not all risk has gone with it, Mayor Lenny Curry said in his final storm-related update Friday.
"Today's gonna be the peak of it," Boothe said."We're gonna see a gradual decrease, but the coastal flood warning is going to mean that we're gonna see minor to moderate flooding continuing through the next high tide cycles."
"The riptides are strong, and it is very dangerous out there," Hoffman said at the press conference."There's no safe way to get into the ocean right now." Walking on or around the cliffs of the dunes, which in some places are between five and 10 feet tall, can be very dangerous, Hoffman warned. The storm downgraded from a Category 4 hurricane to a tropical storm early Thursday morning, meaning less rain and slower winds than expected in Jacksonville. Multiple areas of the city reported downed trees and not all power has been restored, butnot to experience another Hurricane Irma or Matthew.
Curry's speech then entered the political realm, mentioning upcoming city elections and referencing candidates who disagreed with the pension reform.
