Southern Downs have been issued several emergency warnings as a number of towns south of Toowoomba are lashed by severe flash flooding.
Up to 90 millimetres of rain fell overnight in areas along the Condamine River, with water levels tipped to peak at around lunchtime today. Regions set to cop the brunt of the flooding include the Southern Downs towns of Allora, Killarney and Condamine."Showers and thunderstorms overnight Sunday and into Monday, with rainfall totals of 60 to 90mm, have caused rapid river level rises and moderate to major flood levels across the upper creeks and tributaries of the Condamine River," The Bureau of Meteorology said.
"Major flooding is occurring in the upper Balonne River at Warkon, with minor flooding also rising between Surat and Weribone."The BoM said showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the duration of the day and into the evening. Police have closed the New England Highway and surrounds in Allora and Clintonville, with no local alternatives in place due to the severe rain.A full Queensland flood report including current warningsMeanwhile in Victoria, a severe weather warning for heavy rainfall and extreme winds has been cancelled, but a number of flood warnings remain in place for parts of East, West and South Gippsland."Widespread rainfall totals of 30 to 80 mm have been recorded across Gippsland.
