Democrats in Florida, a must-win state for President Donald Trump, have requested roughly 730,000 more election ballots ahead of the general election than Republicans

“Of course it’s a great indicator,” said state Rep. Evan Jenne, a Broward County Democrat who is helping coordinate the party’s House campaigns this cycle. “But there are a number of different things that will go into who wins on Election Day, and we can’t sleep on a lead.” During Florida primaries last month, Democrats failed to return nearly 800,000 mail ballots. Republicans, by contrast, had fewer than 562,300 requested ballots unaccounted for. Florida voters in all mailed 4.2 million ballots in the primaryFlorida Republicans also tend to turn out in much larger numbers on Election Day, which can swamp Democrats’ mailed ballots and early in-person voting advantages.
