Florida's Latino voters favor DeSantis, Rubio over Democratic opponents, Univision poll shows

The poll was conducted by Noticias Univision, the news division of TelevisaUnivision, one of two major U.S. Spanish-language television networks.

Florida's diversity Latino shows in poll

As expected, DeSantis garnered a large majority of support among Cuban-Americans, who historically vote Republican. 53-27%, versus Crist. Cuban-Americans represent the largest group of Latinos in the state. Broken down by Florida's diverse Latino community, the poll found a large majority of Cuban-American voters favored Rubio over Demings, 54-26%, and — unlike DeSantis — an even bigger advantage among South American voters, 55-33%. Puerto Rican voters, however, support Demings over Rubio, 43-31%.

This election year, the number of registered Latino voters topped 2.6 million and represent nearly 18% of all voters. Of those, the majority — 966,975 — are No Party Affiliated voters; 901,481 Democrat; and, 697,911 Republican, according to the state Division of Elections.President Biden fared well among Hispanics, with a 54% approval rating. The president’s approval ratings among other Florida and national polls showed him in the mid-40% range at best.

Latinos and others were surveyed in Florida on a wide range of issues, including abortion, student debt, climate change, inflation and gun violence. Among them: A vast majority, 93%, favored allowing the federal government’s Medicare program to negotiate lower prescription drug pricesNearly three-quarters, 73%, wanted a federal law g a law to guarantee access to abortion for women who need it.A large majority, 69%, supports prohibiting classroom instruction on sexual orientation for children in kindergarten through third grade, a key provision of the Gov.
