Susan Louise Lorincz, 58, is charged with manslaughter with a firearm, culpable negligence, battery, and two counts of assault in the shooting death of Ajike “AJ” Owens, 35, a mother of four.
, has been arrested after investigators say her actions were not in self-defense, as the woman claimed.
But Woods said witness accounts, along with surveillance video, disputed Lorincz’s claims that she was acting in self defense because Owens was trying to break down her door. Ben Crump, the lawyer representing Owens’ family, held a news conference Wednesday, thanking the sheriff for making the arrest.
Crump has said Lorincz, who is white, yelled racial slurs at Owens’ children, who are Black, while they played in a field moments before the shooting. The sheriff’s office has not confirmed or denied this account.
