King Island farmers urgently need feed for their livestock, but 500 tonnes of donated hay sits at Swan Hill in Victoria with a tussle over which port it will be freighted out of.

The hay sits in Swan Hill. The nearest port is Apollo Bay. Farmers on King Island say they needed it yesterday. The "Need for Feed " says the next port is further away and will add $70,000 to the delivery cost.

"The rain keeps avoiding the island for some terrible reason. There's a very, very high need for feed," Ian Sauer from TasFarmers said.He said he was frustrated that donated feed was ready to go but was sitting in Swan Hill in Victoria waiting for approval for it to be freighted by ship from the Port of Apollo Bay in the Otway Shire."In my view, this is some of the most atrocious corporate behaviour that I've seen," he said.

The Lions Club of Australia's national fodder collection project, "Need for Feed", has collected the fodder. "That is 150 kilometres further by road, but it's also more than 150 kilometres further by sea, which would be a significant cost to our charity," Mr Cockerill said."And so are the desperate King Island farmers," he said
