While most train providers allow passengers to bring their own food and drinks, some items are prohibited
There are a number of major train operators across the UK, and many of us have used several of them for commuting, visiting family or friends, or during a staycation.
Each also has its own rules on taking your own food and drink on board - and some items are strictly prohibited. Here's what Merseyrail, Transport for London and others have to say on the matter: London Tube Food is allowed though, as with Merseyrail, alcoholic drinks are banned on the Tube, as well as all other TfL services. One rule says you're not allowed to bring an item that may "soil" a person or property.
Northern There are no catering trollies on Northern trains though passengers are welcome to bring their own food on board providing one rule is followed. Foods with a "strong odour" are not allowed on these services.
