The Uruguayan posted an apology later on Instagram, writing:"Sonny, brother! I am sorry for what happened, it was a joke in bad taste." "Lolo would not mean to ever intentionally say something offensive. We are brothers and nothing has changed at all," he said. The 27-year-old's comments resulted in a"significant number" of complaints being made to anti-discrimination charity Kick it Out.
The suspension covers English Premier League and EFL Cup clashes, however Bentancur will still be able to take part in his side's European games - with meetings with Roma and Rangers scheduled during his domestic ban.
