Boris had been a part of the zoo for over half a century
Tributes have been paid to a Chester Zoo 'icon'. Boris, a chimpanzee and one of the zoo's oldest residents, died age of 58 on Thursday, July 25. and had recently begun to show signs of age-related conditions. Despite receiving daily medication and geriatric care from the zoo's veterinary and primate experts , his condition suddenly worsened. The decision was made to put him to sleep. Tributes have now been left at a statue of Boris at Chester Zoo.
He's gone on to be a great grandad and has a raft of descendants right around the world a truly astonishing number and an extraordinary legacy, made all the more remarkable given his difficult start to life which saw him orphaned as a baby, having been taken from his mother by illegal wildlife traders, and forced to live in a New York pet shop.
