Instead, we took to the car to the more weather-friendly Rutland Farm Park, an 18-acre working farm in theof Oakham, where the kids were able to pet sheep, goats, pigs, cows, geese and alpacas as well as cuddle guinea pigs and groom ponies. Just behind the high street is what’s left of Oakham Castle, which dates back to 1190. Still standing is the Great Hall that houses a strange collection of more than 230 ornate ceremonial horseshoes donated by visiting dignitaries, the oldest of which was given to the castle by Edward IV in 1470.
