Vino veritas, or so they say. These writers certainly know a lot about the finer things in life, and not just wine.
The best writing about wine uses fermented grape juice as a lens through which to view other things, from history to religion, from the sublime to the ridiculous. Here are three recently published books that remind us that wine is so much more than a drink. As the author of one of the books, natural wine champion Alice Feiring, says: “I write about wine because it is life.”Matt Fowles, left, and Peter Coleman have written about their “unlikely friendship forged over wine”.
But there are also many challenging ideas, moments of raw honesty and some “scenes” which I found engrossing and thought-provoking, such as the chapter on cabernet sauvignon, where the dialogue delves into concepts of time, ageing, parental responsibility and legacy.
