The boy, who was arrested with friends in Fortitude Valley after allegedly stealing from a liquor store, repeatedly spat near the officer.
A Brisbane senior constable accused of assaulting a 12-year-old during an arrest in which the boy repeatedly spat near officers has been acquitted.
Senior Constable Scott Anthony Edmonds was one of several officers who arrested the group, with body-worn camera footage showing police speaking to the children about reports of them stealing multiple times that day. Edmonds could be heard saying: “This is our workplace, we don’t want to be f---ing walking through that spit.”Edmonds could also be heard telling the boy “you smell like a pig”, and asked him “are you hard of hearing?”Edmonds repeated his question, asking if he was hard of hearing, to which the boy answered “yeah”. He then again told him not to spit.
Almost two minutes later, the boy spat again but could then be heard saying “sorry, sir” immediately after.
