is predicting only 1 to 3 inches of snow for the northern half of New Jersey, some forecasters are expressing concern over the potential threat of icy roads from sleet and freezing rain.
Based on current computer guidance models and temperature projections, DiMartino believes the changeover to rain will occur quickly over New Jersey’s coastal plain. However, “over the interior, there might be a prolonged period of sleet and freezing rain before we get that changeover, so we’re going to have to watch that very carefully.”
In a public forecast discussion Tuesday, the weather service said it doesn’t expect this storm to be a big snowmaker for New Jersey, but it is a “bit concerned with the icing potential” in northwestern sections of New Jersey and also in the southern Poconos in northeastern Pennsylvania.
