Work visas for foreigners who graduate from Australian universities could be extended by one or two years.
Mr Clare also signalled he wants to change the model for short courses.
“What 35-year-old woman, possibly with kids, husband to support can afford to do that [enrol in a micro course]. “The China numbers are surprisingly strong, but we suspect that a lot of that concentrated in a relatively small number of universities who had students online and offshore so if you didn’t have that pipeline, you’re probably not seeing the China bounce,” Mr Chew said.deputy vice-chancellor Michael Wesley said his university was starting to see a return in interest from international students, but Australia had lost its first mover advantage.
