The Forest Theater opened in 1949 and struggled to stay open in the years following. Forest Foward acquired it in 2017 and has now reached its halfway mark in donations to restore the historic South Dallas theater.

The organization's fundraising goal amounts to $75,215,000 — symbolic of the zip code the theater is located in “Our strategy is focused on holistic and inclusive revitalization including arts education, cradle-to-college support, building of mixed-income housing and the restoration of the historic Forest Theater,” Forest Forward CEO Elizabeth Wattley said in a statement.
