Energetic and joyful, it’s turning up everywhere in the work of leading designers, along with reissued classics and tactile natural materials.
Call it the Colour Wars. On the one hand, House Orange swept over Milan during the Salone del Mobile in September, with big brands releasing furniture and lighting in varying degrees of hot. But then, a few weeks back, a cool blue hue – called “Very Peri” was advanced by Pantone as its 2022 Colour of the Year. Trend-watchers were caught in the crossfire.
“We’re in a transitional moment right now,” says Felix Burrichter, editor and creative director of New York-basedmagazine. “Everything was so creamy for so long, but it feels like brands are anticipating a consumer desire for warmth and positivity.” Hardly the “carefree confidence and a daring curiosity” Pantone attributes to what is formally referred to as Pantone 17-3938 in its extensive catalogue.
