Former A’s manager Melvin expected back in Padres dugout for opener vs. SF Giants

The 60-year-old Bay Area native had been away from his new team since May 11. The Padres said no cancer was found during the procedure.

Melvin grew up in Menlo Park, played collegiately at Cal and spent 11 seasons as the A’s manager before taking the Padres job over the winter.
