JASON OM, REPORTER: Antoinette Lattouf has been unapologetic about her support for the Palestinians and her criticism of Israel.ANTOINETTE LATTOUF SOCIAL MEDIA POST: You can and should condemn legally military occupation of Palestine that’s been happening for 75 years.
JASON OM: But the federal court has heard that while Antoinette Lattouf was on air, the ABC was receiving complaints about her.More than 12 months on, the national broadcaster is before the court accused of sacking Antoinette Lattouf for her political beliefs.In the first two days of evidence this week, we’ve heard mainly from Ms Lattouf’s point of view.
Did she say this to you: “Obviously, as an ABC presenter you need to be impartial and that includes on social media,” he said.Did she say this to you: “I wouldn’t want to give anyone ammunition for complaints, so it would be best if you don’t post anything in relation to the Israel Palestine situation on social media while you’re with us.”Ms Lattouf told the court that she came to an agreement with the manager to continue to post factual material about the conflict.
It heard that the broadcaster planned to keep her on air until her five days was over in a so-called managed exit. JASON OM: Ian Neil SC challenged Ms Lattouf about her claims the ABC's actions had caused her distress.She replied, “Ongoing litigation, constantly lied about, defamed, derided by the new chair of the ABC at the National Press Club. I don’t want any of this. I shared a Human Rights Watch post.”Ms Lattouf’s supporters have sat in the public gallery quietly cheering her on and at one point one of them interrupted proceedings by clapping loudly.
