Leonard Hart received five years' probation and must pay $55,311 in restitution, according to the sentence handed down by a federal judge on Thursday.

The former head of a York County charter school has received a final sentence on a charge of theft of federal program funds, the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced Friday.in August of 2022 after federal prosecutors said he stole funds by faking that he was enrolled in university courses and then seeking reimbursement from his federally-funded school.

Hart was sentenced Thursday by Judge Yvette Kane, with court records indicating he had signed a plea deal before the case was filed, and also waived his right to face indictment. Hart was the principal and CEO of Lincoln Charter School from 2013 to 2021, according to federal prosecutors, and the alleged fraud occurred between 2018 and 2020. The school receives federal Title I funding, which assists schools with high levels of children from low-income families.

Hart gamed this system by claiming that he was pursuing a Ph.D. and fraudulently submitting reimbursement requests for courses, prosecutors said - falsifying documents and even leaning on an employee and former student to assist him in crafting a forged diploma., Hart is not the first former Lincoln Charter School administrator to face the program theft charge.
