Former CFMEU boss John Setka received a substantial six-figure payout upon his resignation, despite the union being placed under government administration due to allegations of misconduct during his leadership. Setka resigned just hours before explosive allegations about his union's misconduct were published, including the employment of bikies and criminals on government projects, kickback schemes, and the use of bullying tactics.
The union was placed into government administration in August, with pro-union barrister Mark Irving KC appointed to oversee the clean-up. Sources also revealed Setka was given a $450,000 golden handshake, while his assistants received $300,000 and $250,000 in payouts. Despite the controversy, Setka claims he is suffering from PTSD, leading him to file a worker's compensation claim
