Former Cliftonville defender Luke Turner has opened up on the mental health struggle that almost saw him quit football. Turner joined Aberdeen from Shamrock Rovers at the age of 16 but says his full-time dream wasn't everything he thought it would be. The 21-year-old almost called time on his career twice after suffering severe bouts of homesickness in Scotland . He told the Irish Mirror: “First month over there I thought, ‘This is the best thing ever’.
We went to Spain, it was 30C and I thought ‘Lovely, we’re going to have a little holiday here’,” he said. “We were running twice a day for two weeks. But when I got back to Aberdeen it gradually came on over the space of maybe six to 12 months. “I was very homesick and I had conversations with the coach about coming home because I struggled that much. “Mental health is not talked about enough.
