A former Queensland councillor and businessman has been handed a suspended prison term for fraudulent flood relief claims. John Dane Swalling was a member of the Cloncurry Shire Council at the time the offences were committed.John Dane Swalling was charged with one count each of fraud and attempted fraud in January 2023 after a police search of his property revealed he had not suffered cattle losses or infrastructure damage as he had claimed via the Queensland Rural Industry Development Authority.
