Filings show the corporate vehicle was established the end of last year, with financial backing from a boutique VC firm.
Two former Fairfax Media executives who were tasked with overhauling the news company’s digital strategy have scored backing from a boutique venture capital firm for a mystery start-up.
Reached over the phone, Mr Janz declined to answer questions, but asked about whether the new corporate vehicle was a media or tech start-up coyly said it was “possible”. The ‘Fairfax blue’ business was asked to come up with the strategic plan and technology platforms to complete the company’s shift to digital, which involved possibly axing the metro newspapers weekday print run. In 2017, the ‘Fairfax blue’ start-up was re-integrated into the business, overhauling the sales and subscriptions of the company.
Both left Nine Entertainment in the last 18 months. The duo were brought in to help New Zealand publishers negotiate commercial deals with Google and Facebook, according to a report inSpeculation about a new media company ramped up in the publishing industry in recent weeks after John McDuling, the national business editor ofleft after eight years at the company, telling friends he was joining a start-up.
