Former federal corrections officer Jose Viera received a maximum sentence at a hearing Monday, after he pleaded guilty to raping a female inmate in 2020.

Former BOP corrections officer Jose Viera, 49, received a maximum sentence for raping an inmate at the Los Angeles Metropolitan Detention Center in December 2020. The DOJ said Viera later lied to federal agents when the Department of Justice, Office of the Inspector General , and the FBI conducted a voluntary interview. Clarke added:"We hope this sentence stands as a reminder to would-be offenders that the Justice Department is committed to holding officials accountable when they sexually assault people held inside jails and prisons."The DOJ-OIG Los Angeles Field Office assisted in the investigation.
