Businessman Vivian Lobo was the LNP’s last-minute pick to take on Labor’s Anika Wells in the north Brisbane seat of Lilley.

A last-minute LNP candidate who provided false information about his residential address while he contested a marginal Brisbane seat in the 2022 federal election has been slapped with a $1000 fine.

Lobo, a businessman, was the LNP’s second choice to take on Labor’s Anika Wells in Lilley, which she held in her first term with a margin of 0.6 per cent. Lobo previously told media he enrolled in the Lilley electorate as he had signed a lease in Everton Park, with the intention to move in straight away, however was delayed moving in because of “campaign commitments and difficulty with getting tradespeople to the home”.

The court heard Lobo made comments about his motivation for changing his address, including that he had received negative feedback and criticism on social media about not living in the Lilley electorate. “It was clear that the offending was motivated to reduce his media criticism, and he stood to gain a position as a member of parliament.”
