Questions were initially raised over Meng's whereabouts amid suspicion he had fallen out of favour with the Chinese President, told the court in the northern city of Tianjin on Tuesday he would not appeal against the judgment. Last March, the ruling Communist Party said its investigation found Meng spent"lavish" amounts of state funds, abused his power and refused to follow party decisions.
Meng took more than 14.46 million yuan worth of assets in bribes and abused his former positions in the public security ministry and the coast guard between 2005 and 2017, the court heard.
