The review will determine if the auditing industry watchdog’s disciplinary processes are up to scratch after it was slammed for its “soft” response.
Ainslie van Onselen says submissions from CA ANZ members will be “essential” to the review.CA ANZ members criticised the sanctions as taking “far too long” and being too soft, building onthat it allowed KPMG to get away with systemic exam cheating because of the firm’s size and influence.
“A key element of this review will be direct feedback from members, and I strongly encourage engagement with this process, which will inform future conduct to which all chartered accountants are subject,” she said.“This is the most comprehensive review of its type in more than five years, and member engagement is essential to ensure that our professional conduct framework remains in line with global best practice.
As well as spending eight years on the Federal Court bench, Mr Cowdroy has acted as a Justice of the ACT Supreme Court and overseen military tribunals. He will also look at rules related to the CA ANZ’s disciplinary functions more broadly, as well as its professional conduct committee structures and support offered to members about their “ethical disclosure obligations”.
