Westmorland and Furness Council will either grant or deny planning permission
Plans have been lodged to replace a roof on a block of flats on a former police station in Kendal to help prevent damp.
Applicant Home Group has applied to Westmorland and Furness Council for planning permission to carry out mainly ‘like for like’ replacement works to the roof structure, slate roof and areas where damp has damaged the building on Old Police Yard off Finkle Street. The planning statement says the existing roof structure, roof coverings, walls and ceilings are in a ‘state of deterioration’ and are ‘reaching the end of serviceable life’ where they are ‘not currently fit for purpose.’ The statement adds residents in the flats at Old Police Yard have complained about dampness and damp remediation works are required at flats 4, 18,20 and 22.
According to the statement it provides a ‘significant contribution to the history and appearance of Kendal Conservation Area.’ Westmorland and Furness Council received the application on October 5 and no date has been set as of yet for a decision.
