Labor frontbencher Bill Shorten has announced his retirement from politics after an almost two-decade-long career.
He is expected to announce his decision at a press conference with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Thursday.
"Chloe has been a tower of love and strength and I think she has shown more courage than I'd dream could exist," Shorten adds.The former Labor leader says that when he joined the Australian Workers Union 30 years ago, he was "driven by the belief that everyone, regardless of circumstance, deserves an equal opportunity".career.

He united the party, re-energised the caucus and saw off two prime ministers and rebuilt Labor into a strong opposition and a genuine alternative government.
