A former nurse at the Launceston General Hospital who was also a children's camp leader is facing two counts of indecent assault against children in the 1980s.
A court has heard that media stories about the experiences of an alleged victim-survivor of child abuse led to another man to come forward to say he was also abused by the same man when he was a child
He said he had asked for a drink of water from the defendant, who was working at the hospital, and told him he was a doctor and to follow him. The court also heard that the defendant was in numerous other positions of authority, including at a children's camp, where he met Complainant B — who said he lodged a complaint after hearing the story of Complainant A in the media.
"I know I went through all my photo albums, and I destroyed a lot of photos because I was so angry, partly blamed myself for it," she told the court.When the alleged abuse occurred, the two brothers visited the defendant's parents' house, where it was said he lived at the time. The friend said he attended the children's camps with Complainant B, where the defendant was a "hut leader".
