Former Marine president David Wotherspoon has been described as a 'true great' in heartfelt tributes
An Oxford University graduate and journalist, he was on the club committee at Rossett Park throughout the 1970s through to the 1990s before becoming club president - an honour held by his father William in the 1960s.
"Born in 1939 Dave has been watching Marine since and remembered games in the 1940s. In any conversation he could relate a situation to things that had happened at marine in any decade since. The tribute continued: "A fiercely loyal man, David has been a fantastic support to me personally all my life and to my dad aswell as many others in the club. Sometimes running a club can be a lonely place and David was an incredible sounding board and support for everyone.
"If i would have asked him at any time over the years how he would have wanted to go - in Marine’s bar with a pint of Tetleys would have been no. 1 choice. Well, you did yourself proud, Dave.
