Victoria’s anti-corruption body has released the findings of a 17-month probe into allegations of bribery and misconduct at the inner-Melbourne council.

A former mayor of an inner-north Melbourne council received cocaine and Xanax in exchange for preferential treatment by council of a construction manager’s business interests, a wide-ranging anti-corruption investigation has found.named Operation Leo into allegations of bribery and misconduct by councillors at Moonee Valley City Council.

“IBAC found that on multiple occasions between 2020 and 2022, Mr Nation bypassed proper MVCC processes by directly progressing property-related applications and influencing an MVCC decision on behalf of the construction manager. IBAC heard evidence that Mr Nation, on occasion, received cocaine in exchange for his assistance.
