A former Olympic swimmer from Plymouth pleads not guilty to multiple child sexual abuse offences.

The allegations include five counts of rape against two teenagers, two charges of assault causing actual bodily harm against a third victim, and charges of sexual activity with a child. Mr James represented Great Britain in the 100m butterfly at the 2012 Olympics and was a Commonwealth Games medal winner.
He was also a student police officer but was suspended after his initial arrest and is no longer an employee of Devon and Cornwall Police. He is accused of controlling and coercive behaviour, causing or inciting a child in sexual activity, sexual communication with a child, intentional touching and intentionally encouraging or assisting in the commission of rape.Defence barrister Michael Brown said Mr James had the profile of an ex-Olympian and was a sports ambassador.Mr James was remanded on unconditional bail and he will appear in court again on 17 November.
