After being banned as a director, Roy Spagnolo has been declared eligible to stand for re-election on the board of the Parramatta Leagues Club, offering him a chance to return to his former position of power.
Eight years after the liquor and gaming regulator found he was not fit and proper to govern the Parramatta Leagues Club , the colourful property developer Roy Spagnolo has cleared his path for another stint on the board.
“I’ve done a lot of good work for the community in rugby league and I’m involved in charity work, and trying to do something for the football club that ended up with a stain on my name is not very nice for me.” They included his brother-in-law Patrick Agostino; his friend Roy Mittiga, who was jailed for insurance fraud in 1992; his former business associate Pasquale Sergi, who was named in the Woodward royal commission as a money launderer for the Trimbole crime family; porn king Con Ange, who shouted the Eels players dinner at his Brisbane pub; and Spagnolo’s neighbour and fellow property developer Vince Lombardo.
Spagnolo said this week: “They were just technical breaches. Everyone makes technical breaches. I don’t think I lack the skills, but my skills have improved anyway.”
