Former prime minister Julia Gillard has been left “very, very disturbed” by acts of antisemitism in Australia and has blamed social media for “misinformation” about the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Former prime minister Julia Gillard has called for action to combat bigotry and intolerance as she spoke out on an alarming escalation of incidents of antisemitism in a new Sky News Australia documentary.

“And I've seen it in my adult life too. I've seen it in the dialogue around foreign affairs and it has always deeply, deeply offended me.” “And because of that, I think particularly young people are developing views about this which are unbalanced and really not informed by the history in any way.” In response to denials, Ms Gillard has said it “took longer than it should have” for commentators to condemn the sexual violence.

“I do think that it took longer than it should have for people to come out and to decry this sexual violence, which was obviously so grievous.”
