Caroline Henry, who was voted out of her role as Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner on May 3, has reportedly been selected as the Conservative party's candidate for Nottingham North and Kimberley upcoming General Election
Nottinghamshire's recently-voted-out police and crime commissioner will stand for Parliament in Nottingham, according to reports. Caroline Henry, who lost her role as Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner on May 3, has been selected as the Conservative party's candidate for Nottingham North and Kimberley in the upcoming general election.
Mrs Henry was defeated by Labour's Gary Godden last month, with the incumbent garnering 77,148 votes compared to Mr Godden's 119,355. She had been heavily criticised by opposition politicians and the public for refusing to resign despite being convicted of five speeding offences over the course of four months in 2021.
However, according to journalist Michael Crick's 'Tomorrow's MPs' X account, which reports on the process of political parties selecting candidates, Mrs Henry has now been chosen to contest the Nottingham North and Kimberley seat.
"She was the local Nottinghamshire police & crime commissioner from 2021 until her defeat last month. While PCC she was convicted of five speeding offences." Mrs Henry has been contacted for comment. Labour Alex Norris has been the MP for Nottingham North since 2017, but like Mr Henry is currently not an MP as Parliament has been dissolved. He will be contesting the new Nottingham North and Kimberley seat, along with Christina Morgan-Danvers of the Lib Dems, Sam Harvey of the Green Party and Reform UK's Simon Brindley.
