South Australia's former Liberal leader has announced he intends to quit parliament in the next sitting week, after a video was published last month by News Corp that allegedly shows him snorting from a plate.

In a video posted to social media, David Speirs said he was arrested and his home was raided "by armed police" since the vision was made public.The member for Black said he did not believe he could adequately serve his community "while dealing with this matter, protecting my mental health, and supporting my family and friends".

"For me it's time to move on, I want to rebuild myself over the coming months and into the future," Mr Speirs said.
