The Matildas may have won the hearts of the nation during their Women’s World Cup run but a former Socceroo player predicts they won’t “change the game”.

“It was a marvellous event… the Matildas brought so much joy to so many young players and young people who had never really been involved in the game, so fair play to them,” Slater said on the Back Page on Tuesday night. While he agreed that the Matildas had played an important role in inspiring a new generation of young girls and boys he said “once the party was over”, not much would change.
