Leonard Albert Gardiner, now 87, will remain in prison until at least October 2030 after being found guilty of maintaining an unlawful relationship with a child aged under 16 and committing an act of buggery.
Leonard Albert Gardiner has been sentenced to prison for abusing two students at The Armidale School in the 1960s.A former teacher has been jailed for the abuse of two students at a prestigious northern NSW boarding school in the 1960s.Judge Leonie Flannery sentenced Gardiner to 13-and-a-half years in prison, with a non-parole period of eight-and-a-half years, in Sydney's Downing Centre District Court today.
"Despite Mr Gardiner's lack of remorse, I agree with Mr Boulten … he is unlikely to reoffend," Judge Flannery said. This charge related to two acts of indecent assault and two acts of buggery upon one of the boys between 1964 and 1966.Mr Boulten argued Judge Flannery should only use two of those as a "factual foundation" for the offence.
"Just as we supported them during the investigation and both trials, today we again express our sorrow for what they endured and acknowledge that the school at the time, failed to listen and act.
