Former treasurer Peter Costello homed in on the Victorian government during his address at the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship conference, dubbing it “the most incompetent” during a tirade about spiralling debt.
Australia's longest-serving treasurer, Peter Costello , has launched a blistering attack on the “moronic” Andrews government during an address about government spending at the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship conference.
At the ARC on Tuesday, the 67-year-old began his address by describing all levels of government as an “institution that is getting bigger and commanding more resources than ever”. According to Mr Costello, there has been a 16 per cent increase per capita in tax over 16 years from 2007 to 2023."If we were to take federal taxes and divide them per capita in constant dollars, in 2008, per capita payments were $14,000 and over 16 years they had increased to $17,017. That's a 16 per cent increase per capita in constant dollars over 16 years," he said.
“How cruel, children weren't dying from COVID and they wouldn't die from using swings and slides," he said.
