With the advent of Arizona Wildcat-turned-2018 NBA MVP James Harden joining UCLA Bruin-turned-2017 NBA MVP Westbrook for their third stint together on the Los Angeles Clippers, the 35-year-old Westbrook's future with his hometown club suddenly has become tenuous.
He and Westbrook have never fit well together, as both are at their best running the point. Their minutes were often staggered when both were still on rookie-scale contracts with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Rockets' supporting personnel had to be severely altered for Westbrook to sort of work alongside The Beard in H-Town.
