Former world bodyboard champion Damian King is preparing to take on Hawaii's Pipeline, more than a decade after he last competed at the famous break.

Damian King is passionate about the ocean and bodyboarding, a sport he embraced as a child in Port Macquarie in northern New South Wales.

It was at the famous break that King claimed his first world title, and he last competed at Pipeline in 2014."I received the invitation a few months ago," he said. "So, if it gets really big that's the board I will probably use, a board I had made more than 20 years ago … so it will be pretty special to take that out too."The Pipeline Bodyboarding Championship organiser Hanalei Ahn said the contest would be held on days with the best surf conditions from February 25 to March 10."Damian King is a legend, and we are so stoked he could make it to the event," Mr Ahn said.

"I am working on a lot of sprint cardio in pools and things, so if it gets big, I can move fast … my weight is at the weight I need it to be at.""When the waves come through … imagine 10 swimming pools, more probably, standing up in front of you … the waves move very fast and they are very thick," he said.
