Formula One released its 2024 race calendar, which features a return of the Chinese Grand Prix and a few more Saturday races. mwc13_3 breaks down the 24-race slate — the longest F1 season.
As part of its net zero carbon 2030 commitment, Formula One has been looking at how to make its calendar more sustainable. A majority of the sport’s emissions come from business travel and logistics , and next year’s slate is a step towards regionalizing the races.It’s still a work in progress. Miami is a standalone race in May, but the other two U.S.-based races are in mid-October and November . There’s a healthy gap between Singapore and the U.S.
The season ends on two tripleheaders, though there is a two-week break in between. But it begs the question: is F1’s 2024 calendar truly sustainable? Yes, it’s more regionalized and has room for improvement, but 24 races takes a toll on all involved — both trackside and at home.What they’re saying “The planned 2024 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar, that has been approved by the Motor Sport Council Members, demonstrates some important steps towards our shared goals. We want to make the global spectacle of Formula 1 more efficient in terms of environmental sustainability and more manageable for the traveling staff who dedicate so much of their time to our sport,” FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem said in news release.
“Stefano Domenicali and his team have done a great job to both bring in new and exciting venues in emerging markets for Formula 1, and stay true to the sport’s long and remarkable heritage.”
