Sinead Booth is one of the 2024 BOSS Young Executives. She first gained business experience helping with the books as a teenager at her father’s refrigeration business.
Fortescue executive Sinead Booth and her entrepreneur husband both work full-time, and they have two children under the age of five.
Booth grew up in Perth, the daughter of a refrigeration mechanic who runs his own business – and where her elder brother now works – and a seamstress. Neither of her parents finished high school, and at the age of 15, her father inquired if she would like to become a refrigeration mechanic.But as a teenager, Booth knew she wanted to go to university. She had been helping with the family firm’s accounts since the age of 13 and enjoyed learning how business worked.
But in 2017 Australia came calling, as did BHP, where Booth was exposed close up to sustainability and the drive to decarbonise the mining industry. While on parental leave with Matilda, Booth was approached by Fortescue. It was an offer she couldn’t turn down and started early last year. “Right now, I’ve got ambition to make a meaningful impact on the teams that I lead, and also to do the best work I possibly can that has a high impact on the world.
