SUNNYVALE — A fast-expanding tech company that is seeking more elbow room in Silicon Valley and adjacent areas has widened a Bay Area shopping spree for properties in Sunnyvale and Union City.

In the most recent transaction in the East Bay, Fortinet paid $65.7 million for a big building in Union City, which is located at 1200 Whipple Road in Union City, the county records show. Sunnyvale-based Fortinet’s purchase of the Union City site was completed through an all-cash transaction, according to the public documents.

At the end of 2021, Fortinet employed about 10,200 workers worldwide, the company stated in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. That’s about 24% more workers than the 8,200 that Fortinet employed at the end of 2020, the SEC filings show.
