House Republicans have unveiled a bold plan to fight climate change by harnessing the power of trees to siphon carbon from the air rather than depending on emissions slashing.

Republican Bruce Westerman, who introduced the Trillion Trees Act, said “I’m proposing that we lead the world in planting 1 trillion trees globally by 2050”.

“This idea stems from a 2019 Swiss report featured by the American Academy of the Advancement of Science that estimated planting 1 trillion trees could sequester 205 gigatonnes of carbon worldwide. “That’s the equivalent of two-thirds of all man-made carbon since the Industrial Revolution.” Image: Getty

Australia is 'routinely slammed' for emissions reductions by the 'climate cult' | Sky News AustraliaAustralia is 'routinely slammed' for emissions reductions by the 'climate cult' | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Peta Credlin says the “one-sided climate protests” which predominantly target Australia and “Trump’s America”, show how the “climate cult is less about reducing emissions than affirming belief”.\n\nBoth Australia and the US have reduced the carbon emissions by “13 per cent since 2005,” a stark contrast to Canada led by the “ultra-woke” Justin Trudeau who have cut emissions by only two per cent in the same time.\n\nAlthough Australia is “routinely slammed” for reportedly “not doing enough”, it is “one of very few countries” who have reliably met its emissions targets, Ms Credlin said.\n\nThe “climate zealots”, said the Sky News host, believe meeting emissions reductions targets - “as Australia is doing' - is not “nearly as important” as proclaiming that “climate change is the world’s gravest problem”.\n\n“We shouldn't allow the climate zealots to misrepresent the facts because compromising our economic fundamentals to strike a pose overseas is a betrayal of our countries future security,” said Ms Credlin.\n\nImage: Getty\n

Liberal moderates fear coal-fired power debate could risk climate policy | Sky News AustraliaLiberal moderates fear coal-fired power debate could risk climate policy | Sky News AustraliaA bloc of Liberal moderates reportedly hold concerns a flare-up in the coal-fired power debate could risk the climate policy 're-set' promised by Scott Morrison following the last election, says Sky News Political Reporter Tom Connell. \n\nDiscussion have been underway since the re-election of the Morrison Government, with the prime minister promising the Liberal MPs the government would refocus its policy and promote technology as a way to reduce emissions. \n\nMr Connell said while moderate Liberals do not want to create instability, one MP said their backs were against the wall on climate change in a whole host of city seats.\n\n“They believe from interactions with voters that many seats were only saved last time because of economic issues, including franking credits,” he said. \n\n'Most Liberals are working on the assumption Collinsville will not be found to be a viable option, and from there a technology re-set can be the focus.'
