Tasmanian Police Commissioner Darren Hine said the children who died in the incident were all in year 6, two boys and two girls.Mr Hine said a police and WorkSafe investigation was underway into the tragedy, which occurred about 10am when a strong gust of wind lifted the jumping castle about 10 metres into the air. It is unclear how many children were playing on it at the time.

“A number of the children have been taken to hospital and some are in a critical condition,” Tasmanian Police Western District Commander Debbie Williams said during a press conference on Thursday afternoon. “There has been an accident onsite at our school,” a post on the Hillcrest Primary School Community Facebook page reads.

“She was telling [my husband] and I how excited she was about having the jumping castle at school and to have a good day,” Ms Dobson said. “Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those involved,” Tasmania police said in a statement. He said he had been speaking throughout the morning to Mr Gutwein, who is on his way to the scene and will address the media at 4.30pm.
