'These are cases that sadden me.'
Investigations into alleged racist comments on a WhatsApp group which led to the sacking of five firefighters last year has resulted in another four leaving the service. All nine staff are from the same station in Greater Manchester.
He said that in regard to the same watch and the same WhatsApp group a further complaint was received at the beginning of this year involving another set of messages and images that had been posted allegedly involving another four staff. "But I also think it is the less obvious behaviour and activities within the service that are equally important - not in a disciplinary sense but in how we invest in and how we educate staff. We have embarked on a programme of inclusive culture training."
