The national medical advisory group has stood by its earlier recommendation against offering booster shots to healthy adolescents.
Children aged 12 to 15 who are at risk of severe disease will be able to get a fourth COVID-19 shot from Tuesday.
Health Minister Mark Butler announced on Thursday that the government had accepted advice from ATAGI to offer Pfizer boosters to children who are most at risk of contracting COVID-19. To be eligible for a booster, an immunocompromised child aged 12 to 15 must have had their third shot more than three months previously.“Protect yourself and your family this winter by getting boosted and vaccinated for COVID and influenza,” he said.The medical advisory group stood by its earlier recommendation against offering booster shots to healthy adolescents.
On Thursday, ATAGI said there had been no confirmed deaths from COVID-19 in Australians in this age group during the omicron wave.
