France players flooded with online racial abuse after World Cup defeat by LeahMahon_
FRANCE’S BLACK players were subject to racial abuse on social media following their World Cup defeat to Argentina – a year after England’s black players faced the same abuse.
Penalties were missed twice over by Tchouameni and Coman in a shootout and Kolo Muani missed a chance to win the game in extra-time against Emiliano Martinez. A spokesperson for Meta, who have been slammed for not cracking down on hate speech, told The Athletic: “We don’t want racist abuse on Instagram, and we’ve removed the disgusting comments for breaking our rules.
The racial abuse suffered after the World Cup Final has echoed the treatment of England’s black players after they lost to Italy in the final of Euro 2020 last year. The UK Football Policing Unit determined that 207 social media posts were identified as being criminal. “Racist people are so ignorant. If it wasn’t for black players, France wouldn’t even qualify for the World Cup.”
